Building superior versions of games for the PS4 and Xbox One seems to be the trend right now. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition launched a few months ago as a graphically enhanced version of last year's adventure. Metro: Last Light and Metro 2033 will both be given the same treatment later this year. There're also rumours that The Last of Us will be receiving a PS4 port in the near future.

It makes sense. While the new consoles take time to build up a significant fan base, developers can rework their old games and bring them out on the new systems for a fraction of the cost of making something new. In light of this movement, we've listed five games we'd love to see on our shiny new consoles.

GTA V

The obvious one. GTA V launched just as the last-generation of consoles was coming to an end. It was a great way to see off the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, a game you can barely believe managed to be built on seven-year old hardware. Imagine what GTA V's open-world would look like on the new consoles? Besides, GTA VI won't be getting here for years, an updated port could make the wait a lot less weary.

BioShock

One of my favourite games ever, BioShock put players in a captivating underwater world that had suffered a dramatic downfall. Rapture was once the leading city in the world, now it was a dystopia filled with Little Sisters and Big Daddies. Unfortunately a BioShock port seems unlikely as Irrational Games has now closed, but we can keep dreaming.

Far Cry 3

One of the surprises of 2012, Far Cry 3 took the franchise to new heights. Far Cry titles were always enjoyable, but this was the first one that merged the open-world, storyline, gameplay and colourful characters into a contender for game of the year. Who can forget Vaas, possibly the most sadistic game villain of all time? We'd love to go hunting for tigers all over again on the new consoles.

Mass Effect 3

It might not have offered the closure some fans wanted, but Mass Effect 3 was an epic game that brought the trilogy to an end. BioWare is hard at work on Mass Effect 4, but we wouldn't mind going back to the old games again. In fact, porting the whole trilogy over and offering it as a compilation would be a good idea!

South Park: The Stick of Truth

I know I know, The Stick of Truth only came out just a little while ago. After the massively prolonged development cycle (it was first revealed back in 2010) and a change of publisher, Obsidian is probably delighted to have finally got South Park out the door. But this is such a good game that it deserves the attention a PS4 and Xbox One release would bring. Chances are it would still be hilarious on a second and third play through.
