No NX news but plenty to look forward to on 3DS.

The most recent Nintendo Direct stream had plenty of new and interesting news to take on board, especially for owners of the 3DS, though sadly there was little in the way of news concerning the Wii U, upcoming NX console or any games for either. Shame.

Still there were certainly plenty of juicy highlights so let's take a look.

Super Mario Maker coming to 3DS. A great bit of news as the "create your own Mario" game has gone down a storm on the Wii U and being able to make and play levels on the go is ideal. The only real problem comes in the rather non-existant way of sharing levels via your handheld, as you'll only be able to access other peoples stuff through local sharing or Streetpass which kind of defeats the point.

Poochy & Yoshi's Wooly World coming to 3DS. A reimagining of the Wii U version featuring unique levels and content, plus the chance to buy and use a Poochy amiibo too if that takes your fancy.

Pikmin coming to 3DS. Though sadly it seems to take the form of a side scrolling platform with only some of the strategy elements of the main games, there will no doubt be some interesting tricks up its sleeve but it's not exactly the Pikmin 4 game fans have been crying out for.

There is also going to be a lot more updates and amiibo support for Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Including the fact that the sets of cards sold alongside the game will now provide some more meaningful form of content within the game itself - though exactly what form it will take remainns to be seen.

It's certainly interesting to see some of the bigger Wii U games ported over to the far more succesful handheld, in what is probably a sign of things to come as far as the Wii U is concerned. It's lifespan is winding down as we await the NX and Nintendo don't seem keen on doing much more than teh bare minimum in terms of supporting it now. Still that all benefits 3DS owners, who also have the upcoming Pokemon games to look forward to.
