One of the biggest news stories to come from this year’s E3 event in LA was Microsoft’s announcement it would support backward compatibility natively for selected 360 games on the XBO.

There hasn’t been backwards compatibility since the ill-fated PS3 attempt which saw Sony allow backwards compatibility for one version of its PS3 console, but was dropped almost immediately as it was too expensive to continue.

Microsoft promises there will be more than 100 classic X360 games ready to go on launch, with more titles being constantly added at the request of fans. Games that don’t make the cut aren’t forgotten forever, you can submit your request at the Xbox Feedback site, and if there’s enough interest Microsoft will pull strings with publishers to see what can be done.

This is going to be a huge advantage for Microsoft in the coming months as they close the gap in console sales between the XBO and the PS4. Allowing players the option to upgrade their consoles without having to upgrade their game library will be a huge advantage for those looking to invest in a new console.
