A new eSports gaming league, partnered with the European Gaming League (EGL), has launched in the Middle East.

The new league, known as the Middle East Gaming League (MEGL) will bring competitive competitions to the Gulf and MENA regions for 2015.

The partnership is headed by Red Stallion Interactive on the Middle Eastern side, a digital distributor in the Gulf region, with a reach across the rest of MENA.

"We are delighted about our partnership with EGL: their platform and their business model are very strong, and the initial collaboration has already been very fruitful, with a strong knowledge transfer to our regional teams, and a bright outlook for the Middle East operation,” said Dr. Mohamed Juman, Red Stallion chairman.

“This partnership is great news for gamers in the Middle East as well as EGL. Working with Red Stallion Interactive is an exciting opportunity for us and will help to grow eSports in that region as well as to cultivate relationships with publishers and brands”, said Glen Elliott, joint Managing Director of EGL.

The new platform will support Arabic and will take the successful EGL model and apply it to the Middle East. However, there is an already established gaming league for the Middle East in the shape of Power League Gaming, who’ve been operational for some years now.

EGL hopes to keep “momentum going with weekly online tournaments, engaging new players and teams, and will eventually introduce initiatives that can take players to official international events.”

But it’s not just about competitive gaming, it’s also about creating opportunity for gamers and developers in the Middle East, something we hold very dear here at ArabicGamers.

The board members of the MEGL are Qatari and Bahraini shareholders and are high level businessmen with excellent contacts. The board and shareholders will be able to utilise their contacts in order to afford opportunities to the league and competitive gamers alike that they wouldn’t have otherwise had.

The Middle East has an estimated 20 million gamers and this will allow gamers in the region to access competitive gaming events with the potential to reach the global stage.

We’ll have more information on this as it happens.
