Nintendo has announced it will be patterning with Japanese mobile company DeNA to develop games for the mobile market.

This is a huge deal for the Japanese publisher who has historically had it’s consoles and dev kits on lock down with very few third party publishers and developers getting any kind of space on the consoles.

But this is a historic moment, Nintendo has stayed well clear of the mobile market, but this partnership will see both companies develop specifically for mobile and smart devices and will expand on existing and develop new IP for the platform.

DeNA will be granted full access to all existing IP and will be allowed to create new titles.

It’s also known that current Wii U and DS family titles will not be ported onto the mobile platforms, Nintendo are keen to develop a whole new set of platform specific games.

There’s not much more information, however Nintendo has said more news will be “forthcoming”.

But that’s not all, Nintendo has also announced it will be working on a new “system” dubbed the NX, which you can find more about here. This “dedicated game system” will also tie in with the DeNA deal, but details are sparse. For the full story click here.
