Seattle-based developer Zombie Studios is closing after 20 years.

It made the announcement on its website in a note outlining the decision was based on the retirement of founders Mark Long and Joanna Alexander; and thanking its fans for their continued support.

Zombie Studios is best known for Blacklight and Spec Ops and has worked on more than 30 games published across all major consoles with partners such as Activision, Bethesda, Ubisoft and Konami since it was formed in 1994. It also worked the US Army to develop a version of America’s Army, a game used by the military to allow players to explore the experience of being a soldier and whether it would be a profession players would consider.

Even though Zombie Studios will be no more, PC and PS4 versions of the Blacklight: Retribution will still stay live.

The games have been acquired by newly formed studio Builder Box. Builder Box will keep the servers live and has also poached senior staff from the closing studio, including the director of production, technical director, and various other staff that created and developed Blacklight: Retribution.
