A post spotted by NeoGAF on Microsoft’s site for a job listing reveals the formation of a new, secret team at the software firm that will look to “push the envelope” at the company.

This comes after news that the Xbox Avatars will be overhauled for the next generation, focusing on higher fidelity and more options (via xboxachievements).

The post states “A new team has formed in Microsoft's Xbox division with a specific purpose: to push the envelope of today's and tomorrow's technology as we explore new ideas from the ground floor”, but the post does warn that “joining this team comes with risks.

“Most of what we work on is top-secret; you may not know what your new project is until you've accepted an offer," Microsoft says. "Not all of our ideas will fly. We will fail, and fail fast, on some projects. We will celebrate those failures because they are vital to making sure the right ideas take off in a big way.”

The post does suggest the work will be based around Kinect, infamous on the the 360 and the One. Kinect is an exceptional piece of kit, but it’s not been utilised nor developed for in great detail, but still drives up the price of the Xbox units, making it a less attractive deal than the PS4 for example. It’s in no-man’s land as its value is not appreciated, and Microsoft hope to address that making the Kinect and integral part of the Xbox system.

"If you’re passionate about the potential for Kinect to continue to revolutionize (sic) entertainment and are a seasoned software engineer with the skills to prototype and build the future of premium Kinect-powered experiences, we have a growing team of talented people who want to take entertainment into the future," Microsoft said.

We've spoken to our friends at Microsoft and we're waiting for comments, but friends of the site xboxachievements, have revealed that this post is from two years ago and has been recycled. What it means for the job is still unclear and we hope that we can get some answers from Microsoft.

We'd love to know what you think of the Kinect and whether you think it's worth having or not.
