Splash Damage has announced RAD Soldiers, a free turn-based strategy game for iOS devices.

RAD Soldiers is a light-hearted turn-based strategy game in which players assemble a team of mercenaries and send them into a post-evacuation London, to battle other teams for mysterious "McGuffin Rockets".

Expect customisable weapons, outfits, and abilities, with plenty to unlock through coins and experience earned while playing.

When the game launches in June you'll be able to play single-player against the AI, or take on your friends via asynchronous multiplayer - meaning that you can fire off a turn, switch off your phone, have a nap, and then check back a few hours later to see if your opponent has sent you a turn back. No hurry, in other words. And what about after June? Well, there's apparently a "constant stream of updates" already in development, including new maps, soldiers, weapons, and abilities.

It's totally free, too, as it's the first title from new publisher WarChest - founded by Splash Damage founders Paul Wedgwood and Richard Jolly - which is focusing its efforts on the free mobile market.

The Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and Brink developer is going mobile, apparently. If you happen to have an iOS device, it's hard to think of a reason not to give RAD Soldiers a go when it hits iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch in June.
