Nintendo has confirmed that Yarn Yoshi is headed to the Wii U, as well as several other new titles.

The platformer, in development at the studio behind Kirby's Epic Yarn, was revealed during todays Nintendo Direct broadcast.

The director of Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story, Takashi Tezuka, is on board for Yarn Yoshi, which he says is set in 'a fanciful world of yarn and textiles'.

It will be the first console game with Yoshi starring as the main character since Yoshi's Story in 1998.

Nintendo also announced a new Fire Emblem game, a new RPG called Monolith Soft and a Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD remake.

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata claimed an all-new Zelda game is also in development, but that one 'may take some time'.

Earlier Nintendo confirmed a new Mario 3D action game and a new Mario Kart for Wii U.
