World of Warcraft players have raised $1.9m USD to help battle Ebola, the disease that’s been raging across western Africa.

The campaign launched in November 2014 and ran through to the end of December. Blizzard sold an in-game pet, Argi, which cost $10 USD, which Blizzard gave to the Red Cross to help support relief efforts.

"The community embraced this cute little intergalactic nibbler, helping out a great cause in the process," Blizzard said. "Thanks again to everyone who helped make a difference."

Blizzard Entertainment aren’t new to the donation game, they’ve held campaigns with pet sales for charity, most notably for the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.

We’d like to congratulate all of you that helped and to celebrate your efforts. Gamers united make a difference.
