Destiny’s community manager, Deej, has told ArabicGamers that Bungie designed their own “platform agnostic” dev kit to create Destiny.

Speaking on the differences gamers could expect across the different platforms, Deej reiterated that the game’s only difference across the platforms was the visuals.

“When I say we reinvented the way we make games, that included a creating a central development environment that is platform agnostic, so we have a Bungie dev kit and we create the experience of Destiny in that development environment, we can then optimise a version of that game so that it can live on different devices that can handle it.

“The differences between one generation of consoles and the next is that we just have more horsepower that we can use to render this big, beautiful. So if you’re playing on a legacy gen console, you get to go do everything in the game. But when you evolve to next gen, suddenly you realise this beautiful sunset is reflecting off the water and shadows are moving in real time across the ground.

“These are the things we’ve daydreamed about for a long time at Bungie. It’s the reason why we reinvented the way we make games, we created new tools to build brave, new, big, beautiful worlds and then fill them with action and cut very specific paths through that landscape that would take you on a thrill ride that tells a very specific story and open up those expanses so that you can blaze your own trail, so you can choose your own adventure.”

But it’s not just about the visuals, Deej says. It’s also about populating the world and giving people things to do and see.

“The idea of a living, social landscape, a world that felt alive because of the presence of other players, a place where you could have chance encounters with other heroes on their own adventure, that feeling that anything can happen by virtue of the other people you’ll meet who’ll swoop in on their personal vehicles to save the day in a public event.”

We’ll have a two part interview with Destiny’s Deej later this week, ahead of the launch in a couple of weeks.
