EA could temporarily ban players who intentionally quit when they're losing multiplayer matches in EA Sports UFC.

Assistant producer Jazz Brousseau said EA would be taking a different approach to players who keep disconnecting from online games.

"So, it's not just a matter of giving you a loss and increasing your DNF (Did Not Finish) score," he told PlayStation Lifestyle. "We're going to use that DNF score in more meaningful ways.

"So, if you quit too often in a short period of time, you may be temporarily banned from matchmaking. You may see your position in the leaderboards removed entirely.

"We really want to provide a fun experience in the online space and we take disconnects in online pretty seriously."

The new approach to disconnects could eventually make its way to other sports titles - notably FIFA - when players quit the game after conceding a few goals.

EA Sports UFC launches 20 June on PS4 and Xbox One.
