Leaked screenshots have appeared online showing off an Assassin's Creed game set in 18th-century France.

An anonymous source sent Kotaku the images, revealing the Parisian setting and a new lead character for this year's installment.

Apparently this will be one of two Assassin's Creed games to launch this year, with this one being codenamed Unity.

Speculation points towards Unity launching for Xbox One and PS4, while a different version will be built for Xbox 360 and PS3.

The shots are from an early build of the game so you can expect them to look better in the final version, especially the textures and the population density.

New button prompts telling players they can either "Parkour Up" or "Parkour Down" can also be seen, suggesting a new climbing mechanic is in the works.

Ubisoft is refusing to comment on the images for now, but you can take a look at them yourself below.
