Splinter Cell: Blacklist runs on evolved SC engine
Upcoming Splinter Cell: Blacklist runs on an evolved engine from previous Splinter Cell games.
This is according to Blacklist art director Scott Lee, who claimed that any similarity the stealth title has with other Ubisoft games from an art perspective is purely coincidental.
Lee said that the different Ubisoft studios don't share the same technology, so Blacklist "is its own thing".
"I find it fascinating that that's the perception," Lee told ArabicGamers when asked about the similar art style that games from Ubisoft adopt.
"I play a lot of the Ubisoft games, I was a big fan of Assassin's Creed over the years and it's interesting that that's the perception. Because we don't necessarily share technology, our engine is completely different from the Assassin's Creed engine for instance, so try as we might it can't even come close to being the same.
"Our development teams are completely separate, and a lot of our technologies and toolsets, they're not really compatible. The engine that we use for Blacklist is an evolution on the previous Splinter Cell engine so it has always been its own thing."
Lee added that there are some moments in Splinter Cell that are reminiscent of the gameplay in Assassin's Creed.
"The thing that people might not have noticed is that [Sam Fisher] has become a lot more athletic, and the verticality reminds me of Assassin's Creed and that's a fair comment for sure.
"For us it really wasn't to make him super-powered, or do things that aren't normally Sam. It was because our level designs became a little more ambitious and because we needed him to get from point A to point B without teleporting through cinematics or anything like that.
"So we wanted the place to feel a lot more open and a lot more connected."
Splinter Cell: Blacklist is due to be released in August.
