New rumours detail some of DICE’s upcoming Star Wars offering, Battlefront. Despite there not being much news, it seems that the information that has been leaked sheds some interesting light on the proposed game.

The information has come from Making Star Wars (via our friends at xboxachievements) and suggests the game campaign will cover the timeframe of the whole Star Wars saga leading to the events of The Force Awakens. But you can expect most of the game to cover the original trilogy - so that’s IV, V and VI. To make things more exciting, you can also expect to relive some of the famous battles from the movies.

And you’ll be expected to play for both Imperial Dark Side and the side of the Rebel Alliance “scum”, like in previous games.

The leaks also suggest you’ll have an in-game currency or XP system that allows you to unleash the powers of ‘hero characters’ such as Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Darth Vader, and so forth. These characters will have their own set of special powers and skill sets and will no doubt be invaluable in certain missions - whether we can expect that to carry through to online and multiplayer is a different matter, however it would be a surprise if not.

And speaking of the online, we know DICE knows how to pull off a great online experience, rewarding players for team play; a huge advantage when creating a Star Wars world in multiplayer where you can feel part of the struggle and a sense of achievement when your side is victorious.

We can expect the signature 64-player maps which we have been promised, and which DICE has proved it can do so well.

EA has also said it will actively be pumping out DLC with five themed packs, the first of which we can expect to see before the end of the year. Each pack will contain new maps, characters and hero characters, as well as vehicles and ships.

The game is due to launch later this year and we can expect to hear more about this during E3 with a more aggressive release plan for Gamescom in August.
