The Crew creative director, Julian Gerighty, has told ArabicGamers he wasn’t happy when Ubisoft announced his game would be delayed.

In an interview at GamesCom, Gerighty said that despite his initial feelings, he was delighted with the decision in the end, which allowed his team to create a better game.

“Ubisoft decided to throw a huge amount more money on it, a little bit more time and it allowed us to really push the quality of what we had. I wasn’t particularly happy when they told me this. I am so happy about it now because it’s really allowed us to achieve the game that I wanted to do.”

It also allowed the team to get the game tested in beta, something Gerighty feels strongly about.

“To do a first beta test a couple of weeks ago, to do another one next week; that sort of thing is priceless.”

But he warned that the beta tests don’t mean that the game will be flawless on release.

“We’ll have problems, undoubtedly, but we’re minimising those problems straight away.”

Gerighty is hoping the extra time on the game, and the extra resources, has allowed the game to really develop into something special.

“As a developer, you don’t win prizes for being on time or early. You win prizes for having the best game out there possible. And we’re lucky enough that Ubisoft really believes in quality and invests in quality.”

We broke the news on Monday that The Crew would be localised to Arabic too, giving the MENA audience yet another Ubisoft title relevant to them.

You can find out more about The Crew here. To sign up for The Crew closed beta on Xbox One or PlayStation 4, you'll need to register on the official site

We’ll have the full interview later next week.  The game is due for release in November globally.
