2K Games has officially announced Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, launching on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC this autumn.

In development at 2K Australia in collaboration with Gearbox, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is set between the events of the original Borderlands and Borderlands 2.

Players will get to choose one of four characters - Athena the Gladiator, Wilhelm the Enforcer, Nisha the Lawbringer and series' favourite Claptrap - while the game explores the rise of the evil Handsome Jack.

You'll actually be on Handsome Jack's team, and the game takes place on the moon and the Hyperion space station that orbits the planet of Pandora.

A new feature includes players having to loot oxygen to be able to breath on the moon, and the low gravity means you can perform big jumps.

Players will also have access to a jetpack, allowing you to double jump and cover large distances quickly.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel isn't heading to the Xbox One or PlayStation 4, with Gearbox claiming it wanted to get the game out to as many Borderlands fans as possible without spreading its resources too thin.
