2014 FIFA World Cup won't be making an appearance on PC, PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One due to limited developer resources.

That's according to producer Matt Prior, who claims that to make a proper FIFA game they had to stick with the older consoles and pump those versions full of features.

"We have a limited number of dev resources that we can put towards the World Cup game, and for us to do that properly and get it to as many people as we could in a feature rich version means we stick to the Xbox 360 and PS3," Prior told ArabicGamers.

"They're by far the most popular consoles right now. Over time that will change, but right now their global penetration is way more than Gen 4."

Prior added that appealing to the Brazilian market, the hosts of the World Cup, was also an important factor.

"On top of that another area that was important for us was the Brazil market, where Gen 4 penetration is low.

"It was important for us to get to as many people and possible and get people in the host nation to play it."

However the new consoles will be seeing some World Cup content, and that will be revealed at a later date.

"There will be World Cup content around Ultimate Team which will be announced soon. I'm not sure of the exact date but that will be announced soon."

2014 FIFA World Cup will launch 17 April. Click here to read our hands-on preview.
