The futuristic setting in Titanfall allows the developers to be much more creative than usual, according to Respawn community manager Abbie Heppe.

The upcoming first-person shooter is set in the future with giant Titans that can be controlled by players, bringing a unique approach to the genre.

Heppe believes the time period also allows Respawn to go crazy when creating things such as new maps.

"Well it's really liberating to be in the future, because you can just do so much," she told ArabicGamers.

"It allows us to have the jetpacks, it allows the pilots to wall run and double jump and all that stuff. It allows us to have the Titans, which are just this evolution of modern military exoskeleton suits."

Heppe says that the final game will also come with different types of maps to what players are used to seeing.

"It allows us to have really, vastly different maps and this one that we've chosen for Gamescom, Angel City, is way more familiar looking.

"We have ones that are completely different but we figured with all the new things we're putting to players we thought, 'Okay, let's give them a familiar setting', but with our universe setting we can do a lot."

Titanfall arrives on Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC in 2014, and we'll be bringing you our thoughts on the shooter very soon.
