Rovio is thinking of releasing a Middle Eastern version of the popular Angry Birds game.

The Angry Birds franchise has covered many different themes since the first game was released in 2009, including themed holidays, space and Star Wars.

Now Rovio chief operating officer, Harri Koponen, has revealed that the company is studying the Middle Eastern region with plans for even more content.

"We are studying the region - there is a long Arabic history and lots of interesting stories that need to be told in the region, like One Thousand and One Nights," he told The National.

"We are always developing more local content - we have been focusing on themes recently."

Koponen revealed that there are even plans to open an Angry Birds theme park in the region.

"We have an agent working here now, we are talking with possible developers," he added.

"The focus has always been on game development - that is the core of our business. But we are an entertainment company. We have games, consumer products, animation - we are launching a feature movie, we are doing activity parks and education.

"Learning, health and education is also important."

Over 1 billion Angry Birds games have been downloaded worldwide, with the latest release being Angry Birds Star Wars.
