CD Projekt Red has announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, scheduled to release 2014 on PC and 'all high-end platforms available'.
Open-world gameplay will be offered for the first time in the series, in place of chapters and acts.
The world is said to be 20% larger than the one found in Skyrim, and it'll take around 40 minutes to travel from one side to the other using a horse.
"We decided that we were ready for the next step," said developer Adam Badowski. "We decided to combine two types of games.
"We mastered storytelling in RPG games - that's our strongest side. On the other hand, we feel that we missed something. We missed the huge freedom of open-world games like Skyrim."
The story involves Geralt returning to protect the world from his arch nemesis, as he fights to be reunited with the sorceress Yennefer.
The main plot will be supported by optional quests, with the game world changing depending on your success or failure.
