Ubisoft expected the Wii U to be launched much earlier, revealing that a version of 2011's Rayman Origins was once in the works for the console.

The Wii U will be released across Europe on 30 November, but Rayman creator Michel Ancel claimed Ubisoft has been working on Wii U titles for a while.

Ancel told Nintendo Power magazine [via NintendoEverything]: "To be honest, we were on Wii U very early - even for Origins.

"We did not know exactly when Nintendo would release the system, but we started making Origins for Wii U. [At that point], we thought Wii U would come out a lot earlier. We worked very closely with Nintendo [on Wii U] early on, given them feedback on the various prototypes."

After the Wii U's launch was confirmed, Ubisoft could concentrate on creating Origins sequel Rayman Legends.

"When we finished Origins, it was time to start thinking about Wii U again, because [the hardware] was nearly complete."

Rayman Legends was recently delayed until early 2013.
